Water Fast Update Days 1 to 4

So it’s Day 4 of my fast and I can’t believe how well I’m feeling.  Let met me get you up to speed.

Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. I officially started my water fast.  I didn’t (and still don’t) have a particular end date in mind; however, as I was able to complete an 11‑day water-only fast back in 2009, and in the years since then I have been unable to surpass two days, I figured that if I had completed 72 hours of water fasting, I would consider it a success.  And I have!

I’m a little disappointed in that I have nothing fascinating to report, other than my jeans are fitting very loose, I’ve experienced no nausea (unlike my previous fasts) and the headaches have been rather limited (unlike my previous fasts), but I had limited my caffeine intake over the past several months so perhaps that’s why I’m not feeling the loss as strongly.  I am having some disturbing dreams, however; bizarre and at times violent in nature.

Surprisingly, hunger has been nonexistent from Day 1, but I credit this to my body being acclimated to the fasting process from experiences past.

My skin is not particularly noteworthy at this time and I find myself running to the mirror every morning to check for changes.  Back in ’09, I woke up on the third or fourth day of my fast to find that my pores had literally pushed out all of the blackheads (they were just sitting there on top of my skin!) and had then tightened back up.  My skin hadn’t looked so good since my early 20s.  I’m hoping for the same miracle.  My skin does look better – almost dewy – but my pores are still too prominent for my liking.

Additionally, my bowels moved this morning.  It’s not the most genteel topic but I did promise to provide the gross details, didn’t I?  It was a tiny BM and the only really noteworthy aspect of it was that it smelled worse than usual.

My physical and mental energy levels are amazing.  This surprises me too, because previous fasts made me tired and lethargic, unwilling and at times unable to venture outside of my own bedroom and face people.  I even managed to head to the gym the night before last and get some cardio in.  My blood pressure stayed pretty low and I made sure I didn’t do anything too exerting, but it’s good to do things to move the lymph through the system, which facilitates the detoxification process.  I went out this morning and purchased a new brush for dry-brushing my skin and intend to get back into the habit.  It’s done wonders for me before, and I can’t wait to get back to it.

Finally, as I mentioned before, my clothes are very loose-fitting.  I didn’t weigh myself beforehand as, well let’s face it, scales are depressing; but let’s just say I need to lose some weight and I’m happy to see it go.  Naturally, most of the initial weight loss is water weight, but I did use some Ketostix to measure the ketones in my urine, which have indicated that in the last two days intense fat-burning is taking place.  (Happy dance!)

I’m feeling motivated to get a few things done around the house this weekend, so I’m going to get off my butt and get moving, but I will definitely check in within the next couple of days with an update!
